We are pleased to see that the new Labour Government are doubling down on solar. Great British Energy, a publicly owned green power company, aims to scale up solar power installations across the country in order to enhance energy security, lower household/business bills and create local job opportunities through new renewable projects.
This sort of focus on reaching the 2030 goals of Britain being a clean energy superpower are expected to bring manifold benefits, one being reducing the Uk’s dependency on imported fossil fuels and the government estimates that this initiative can lower energy bills by £300 per household annually.

And in other news…
We have achieved another project consent for our mainstream solar business. South Staffordshire Council has given consent for a solar farm that will provide clean, green energy to approximately 8000 homes. The 22.5MW project known as Deepmore Solar Farm, will be located in Four Ashes, South Staffordshire. The renewable energy project comes with a package of landscape, ecological and biodiversity benefits and has a community benefit fund of over £45,000.
Renewable Connections submitted the application to the Council in October 2023, having undertaken extensive consultation with the community and statutory consultees. Deepmore Solar Farm was approved following a recommendation for approval by South Staffordshire Council planning officers on the 16th July 2024.
The approval marks Renewable Connections, 21st project consent since 2021.
First of its kind Welsh energy initiative
The Launch of the publicly-owned renewable energy developer, Trydan Gwrdd Cymru, will accelerate the development of renewable energy projects in Wales, particularly focusing on onshore wind. The Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Energy and the Welsh Language, Jeremy Miles, officially launched the developer earlier this month stating, ‘Owning our own renewables company on behalf of Wales will allow us not only to develop renewables in ways that fit with the natural environment but most importantly to provide us, and the people of Wales, with the ability to own the returns on what will be a significant investment’. Ed Miliband, the UK Government Energy Secretary, looks forward to working closely with the Welsh Government as its a step forwards in making Britain a clean energy superpower. Along with the launch Jeremy set out the Welsh Governments long-term plans a greener, more sustainable energy supply along side a decarbonising strategy. PowerGreen can work with your business in order to reach these new sustainable goals.
Promising implications for renewable energy
On the 5th July, Sir Keir Starmer was brought into power as the new Prime Minister as a result of the Labour Party win during the UK General Election. Labour have set their stall, in relation to the UK Green Economy, including promises to double onshore wind, treble solar power and quadruple offshore wind by 2030. Whilst these ambitious targets are welcomed, they will rely on challenges including the grid lock on the National Grid, being resolved.
