The Installer Show!
On Wednesday 26th June, Jonathan Plumb, Commercial Director, and Sophie Browning, Market Development Manager, attended The Installer Show at the NEC, Birmingham.
They met installers from the heat, water, air and energy sectors, who are based all over the country and had great conversations discussing how PowerGreen and installers can partner together, providing businesses sustainable solutions to reduce their energy bills.

We were delighted to read a recent press release by the Government discussing the outcome of the first meeting of the new Solar Taskforce. The Taskforce was established by the Government to drive further growth of solar power as part of Powering up Britain. They highlighted the untapped potential of commercial sites for solar and are focusing on cutting the costs of solar installation and improving grid access to support a solar power revolution.
The Government has an ambition for 70GW of solar power by 2035. Although a million homes already have panels fitted to their roofs, commercial buildings, like schools, warehouses and car parks will need to be utilised in order to reach this ambitious target.

Our team were excited to be out in force at this year’s Intersolar Conference, hosted in Munich. The conference is the biggest global solar industry exhibition, providing an excellent opportunity to meet with a wide range of stakeholders to discuss all things solar!

Solar Wizard online tool launched
We were interested to read in Solar Power Portal that The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), a UK charity, has launched Solar Wizard, an online tool to help homeowners, communities, and local authorities evaluate their potential for rooftop solar. Solar Wizard consists of two services. The first is a free, public-facing tool wherein users enter their postcode to receive a simple summary of how much energy solar panels on their roof could generate, installation costs, and potential savings on energy bills. The second tool allows local councils and larger district, unitary and county authorities to understand the viability of solar panels for their public buildings and assess how solar could benefit their climate emergency responses.
Solar panel achieves world record with ‘miracle material’
As reported in The Independent and other news outlets recently, researchers at Longi, the world’s biggest solar panel manufacturer, achieved a 34.6 per cent power conversion efficiency using a tandem perovskite-silicon solar cell. This beat the previous record by 0.7 per cent and is also more than 7 per cent more efficient than the record for a standard silicon solar cell, found in most commercial solar panels. Perovskite has been hailed as a ‘miracle material’ for its potential to vastly improve everything from batteries to telecommunications and renewable energy. With current silicon solar panels reaching their physical limits, researchers are looking to next-generation tandem cells to better harness the sun’s energy. The record was announced at the 17th International Solar Photovoltaic and Smart Energy Conference (SNEC) in Shanghai, China, alongside a new “landmark” agreement to transform global energy by partnering with Saudi energy firm ACWA Power.
